Social Events

Throughout the year we hold a range of events:

• 🎳 Quiz / skittles nights
• 🏆 Standards achievement evening
• 🎄 Awards ceremony / Christmas party
• ✈️ Weekend away - in past years this has been for the Benidorm half marathon

Races & Other running events

Many of the club members regularly take part in races throughout the year, locally, across the country, and even abroad! We use our members-only Facebook group to discuss the events we are considering - click here to see this discussion thread. You can also use the race calendar on this page, as well as the full races & events calendar page. Below are some of our favourite events:

EMGP

The East Midlands Grand Prix is a series of events that typically take place weekday evenings around, you guessed it, the East Midlands. Some of our runners take part in these. You can enter the entire series or just individual races.

DXRC

Squirrels are in the Derby Runner Cross Country League (DXRC). This is an inclusive league suitable for runners of all abilities - as an example, at a recent race some of the female runners were averaging 15:00 minute mile pace at Grace Dieu - 5ish miles. Races typically cost £6-8 each. More information at https://www.derbyrunnerxc.co.uk/

LRRL

The Leicestershire Road Running League holds races starting in spring and ending in autumn, and from the 2025 season onwards Squirrels are a member of the league. Despite the perception that league races are "for faster runners", the reality is that a wide range of abilities takes part, and there is a fun atmosphere on the day with all the regional clubs in attendance. However, races sell out quickly so watch out for posts on Facebook advertising on-sale dates (we will post these in our Members group but also join the Leicester Runners Facebook group as well as the LRRL page). Be prepared to set an alarm on your phone and snap up an entry the moment they go on sale.
